GTA 6 Weather: Moving Clouds, Local Rain & Hurricanes

Sunshine where you stand, rain on the horizon, and roads that stay wet after a shower. A closer look at the weather coming to Leonida, illustrated with Rockstar's own images.

Watch the sky over Ambrosia

Cloudscapes move across Leonida, changing clear skies to overcast conditions. In the Ambrosia image below, the cloud banks occupy almost as much space as the town. A dark opening separates them, while roads and industrial buildings shine underneath. That balance gives the sky a large part in the character of the scene, even before you look closely at anything on the ground.

You can see rain without standing in it

Rain does not have to arrive everywhere at once. You can stand in a dry, sunny area and see a downpour in the distance. That distant rain is falling in that part of Leonida: it has a location you could drive toward. The distinction is spatial, not just a sequence of sunny and rainy screens. Two places in the same landscape can have different conditions at the same time.

The road remembers the shower

Arrive after rain has passed and you will still find puddles and wet surfaces, according to the preview. The sky can already be clearing while the ground tells you what happened earlier. So a change in weather does not immediately erase the previous conditions.

Wet streets also have a strong visual role at night. Outside Delights in Port Gellhorn, red and green signs color the roadway as well as the building. The reflections spread the neon through the scene, making the surface beneath the cars part of the lighting. The image below is a good place to see that effect.

When the light catches up

Rainbows can appear after a shower when the lighting is right. It is a detail tied to the combination of rain and light, so the report does not promise one after every storm. Alongside the lingering puddles, it gives the period after rain its own visual character.

And then there are hurricanes

The forecast also includes tropical storms and seasonal hurricanes. I am curious to see how a familiar waterfront feels when severe weather arrives, but the announcement stops short of explaining how players will deal with it.

Storm frequency, driving effects, flooding, damage and mission consequences have not been detailed in the free preview. The images here show Leonida's scenery; they are not hurricane demonstrations.
