GTA 6 guide
At a glance
Rockstar has not announced crossplay for GTA 6. The current PS5 and Xbox Series X|S listings do not confirm PlayStation-Xbox multiplayer, cross-progression, cross-save, or cross-buy, and a PC version is not announced. Friends on different console families should not assume they can play together; if playing together is essential, wait for Rockstar to publish multiplayer and platform-compatibility details before buying.
Rockstar has not announced cross-platform multiplayer, progression, saves, or cross-buy. Here is what each platform combination means before you choose where to play.

The official GTA VI site and support page currently name PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. The PlayStation and Xbox store listings describe a single-player experience and do not list cross-platform multiplayer. That absence supports a status of Not announced—not a conclusion that crossplay will never exist.
Rockstar has also not announced a separate GTA VI online mode or multiplayer feature set. GTA Online history cannot be used to fill that gap, and its migration or platform rules are not GTA 6 promises.

Rockstar and Xbox list one Xbox Series X|S product, so Series X and Series S owners are buying within the same Xbox console family. That is not the same question as PlayStation-Xbox crossplay, and it does not reveal any unannounced multiplayer design.
Series S support is official. Final performance, storage, and feature-parity questions belong to retail testing, not the crossplay status.
A future PC version is plausible, but Rockstar has not announced one. That means there is no official PC-console crossplay, save-transfer, progression, or cross-buy plan to evaluate yet.
If PC is the platform you actually want, wait for a Rockstar PC announcement instead of buying a console copy on the assumption that it will transfer later.
Playing together is essential
PlayStation-Xbox crossplay is not announced, so matching platforms is the lower-risk plan.
Everyone already owns supported consoles
Do not replace hardware for an unannounced multiplayer feature; use the current platform listings as the only baseline.
Someone plans to play on PC
No PC version or console-PC feature plan exists in the reviewed official pages.
You mainly want the story
The current stores describe a single-player experience, so controller, library, account, display, and storage are the practical inputs today.
Compare hardware, storage, controllers, and ecosystems in PS5 vs Xbox; this page owns the crossplay status.
If you prefer PC, use the PC Version FAQ for the separate release and storefront status.
Check the current date, platforms, preload, and prices in the release overview.
Recommendation
If playing with specific friends matters, use the same console family or wait for Rockstar. If you are buying for the single-player story, choose the supported console that best fits your existing library, controller, display, storage, and account.
Buying guidance

Keep that common platform
It avoids betting the group purchase on unannounced PlayStation-Xbox compatibility.
Wait for Rockstar
Cross-platform multiplayer has not been confirmed.
Wait for the PC announcement
No PC product or console-PC compatibility plan has been announced.
